Crackadash - The Idea

Boxing day, some years ago... sitting around a large table following lunch we made a start on cheese and crackers. My parents, whose home we had invaded, always provided plenty of cheese, and were never without a good Epoisses to provide an aroma that would set the mouth watering or indeed send some sensitive noses running for the hills.

Part way through the afternoon, enjoying the conversation and ambience produced by a good red wine and a slow but steady supply of cheese and crackers a thought occurred. It was inspired by the backdrop of children playing board games in a nearby room -  could we combine all these elements around a game based on eating our way through the cheese? The idea of Crackerdash was born, and like a young cheddar it has matured over time to the point that we can now release the game. We've had some great fun and great cheese bringing this to fruition, now it's your turn!

We hope you have a Cracking time!

Made in the UK

Based in Southampton, Crackerdash™ is manufactured in the UK with an emphasis on sustainability, low environmental impact and adherence to UK standards.

The Game Playing Surfaces
Our original Crackerdash gameboard is manufactured in Lincolnshire. The melamine used is flat board type, manufactured under laboratory conditions. This is far superior to the alternative urea / powdered melamine products that generally originate from China and can have issues with formaldehyde content. Our boards are 100 % PEFC certified and 100% Formaldehyde free. (Certification no.14-35-00014). The boards are constructed using sustainably forested Eucalyptus. The cork backing is sustainably farmed in Portugal.

The Crackerdash Lite edition playing surface uses a ethically sourced cotton which is printed in Fathersham UK and conforms to the certification below ensuring our game remains Eco-friendly, Safe, Responsible and ethical. The cotton is  hand cut and waxed with a beeswax / jojoba oil by us in Southampton, producing a great playing surface with natural antibacterial properties.
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 (11-29028)
OEKO-TEX Eco Passport Certified Ink (NEP 1612)
ECOCERT GOTS Certified Ink

The Mice Playing Pieces: Manufactured by us in Southampton, our 3D Printed Mice are made from PLA (polylactic acid), which is produced via starch fermentation during corn (or other plant) wet milling. It is a biodegradable and eco-friendly material. Complying with the Restriction of Hazardous Substance (RoHS) directive and is free from potentially hazardous substances.

The Bags: Our bags are produced by a specialist textile printing company in Wales. As cotton is not indigenous to the UK, their trading fairly and ethically with suppliers is very important to us. The cotton is organically grown  i.e. using only natural fertilisers and without the use of harmful pesticide sprays. The cotton is used exactly as it comes off the weaving looms without any chemical additives, bleaching or dying. The cotton is a 100% sustainable resource and the bags will bio-degrade totally. The bags are silk screen printed using pigment dyes (vegetable/mineral based) suspended in a water based binder. This process is so safe the Environment Agency allows the waste product to be discharged into  standard foul drain.

The Boxes: Our Grey A5 Crackerdash Lite boxes are sourced from "The Tiny Box" company who set out to deliver quality boxes and branding from ethical and recycled sources. As a consequence the boxes are made from 40% recycled material and are themselves fully recyclable.
